    Read both rates

By views is how TikTok performance is benchmarked. By followers is what brand reports quote.

02Field guide

TikTok engagement rate: two formulas, and the 2026 benchmarks

Two denominators exist and they give very different numbers. By views: likes + comments + shares + saves divided by the video's views, times 100. That is how Socialinsider benchmarks TikTok, because the For You feed shows videos to people who do not follow the account. By followers: the same engagements divided by followers, which is what the Quid brand report and most influencer platforms quote.

The 2025 averages by views were 4.40% for accounts with 1K to 5K followers, 4.00% for 5K to 10K, 3.90% for 10K to 50K, 3.75% for 50K to 100K and 3.95% for 100K to 1M, with 4.20% across all accounts, from 2 million videos and 214,507 profiles. The Q2 2026 read is 3.85%. Average views per video in 2025 were 350, 945, 3,240, 9,900 and 34,900 for the same tiers, which is why the by-followers rate swings so much on TikTok: a video that reaches ten times the follower count posts a huge rate, while the next one may not.

By followers, the Quid 2026 all-industry brand median is 2.01%, against 0.30% on Instagram. For creators, use the rule-of-thumb vetting bands and remember TikTok runs higher than Instagram at every size.

To vet a creator, average 5 to 10 recent videos, use the by-views rate to judge content and the by-followers rate to judge the audience, weight shares and saves over likes, and read every comment on the video.

03FAQ

TikTok engagement rate calculator FAQ

How do you calculate TikTok engagement rate?

Add the likes, comments, shares and saves on a video. Divide by the video's views for the rate by views, or by the account's followers for the rate by followers, and multiply by 100. A video with 2,100 likes, 85 comments, 140 shares and 60 saves on 48,000 views is 4.97% by views; on a 12,000-follower account it is 19.9% by followers.

What is a good TikTok engagement rate in 2026?

By views, accounts averaged 3.75% to 4.40% in 2025 depending on size, and 3.85% in the second quarter of 2026, so anything above 4% is above average and above 6% is strong. By followers, the brand median is 2.01%; creators usually run well above that because their videos reach far past their follower list.

Why do TikTok engagement numbers online contradict each other?

Because two denominators are in circulation. A rate by views is typically 3% to 5%. A rate by followers can be 2% for a brand or 20% for a creator whose video went past the follower base. Always check which one a benchmark uses before comparing.

Do shares and saves count?

Yes. TikTok counts likes, comments, shares and saves as engagement, and shares are the interaction most tied to reach because they put the video in front of new viewers.

Why is a creator's rate by followers so high?

TikTok distributes through the For You feed, so views on a video often exceed the follower count many times over. Divide by views to judge how the content performed, and use the by-followers rate only to compare accounts of similar size.

How do I vet a TikTok creator before a deal?

Run five to ten recent videos through the calculator and average the rate by views. Drop the single viral outlier. Then read the comments on a few of them: questions about where to buy and how it works point to an audience that converts.
