How to search Reddit comments

Search public Reddit comments for the words that matter, then refine the loaded matches or export them for your research. Choose the part of Reddit you want to inspect and run the search without an account or API key.

What you can search

Four places to look. All of Reddit finds the threads that match your keyword and reads their comments. Subreddit does the same inside one community. User reads one person's public comment history. Post reads a single thread top to bottom.

What counts as a match. A comment matches when it contains every word you typed, in any order, ignoring case. Put in a product name, a competitor, a symptom or an objection. The words are highlighted in each result so you can scan fast.

What comes back. Each match shows the subreddit, the post title, the author, the score and the date, with a link to the comment on Reddit. Sort by top to see what the community agreed with, or by new to see what people say now. The CSV download contains the current list.

Limits. 500 comments per user or thread, five threads per keyword search, 200 matches shown. Adult communities are skipped. For full threads with every reply, the Adlicio Reddit comment scraper exports as many as you need.

How does Reddit comment search work?

For a user it reads the newest 500 comments in their public history and keeps the ones that contain your words. For a post it reads up to 500 comments in the thread. For a subreddit or all of Reddit it finds the five threads that match your keyword best, opens each one and keeps the matching comments. Everything is read from Reddit's public pages, no account needed.

Can I search Reddit comments by keyword across all of Reddit?

Yes, in the All of Reddit mode. Reddit's own search only returns posts, not comments, so the tool searches posts for your keyword, opens the five most discussed matches and searches their comments. That finds the comments people wrote in the threads about your topic, which is usually what you want.

Can I search a specific user's comments?

Yes. Choose User, type the username and your keyword. The tool reads the newest 500 public comments on that profile and shows the ones that match, with the post each comment was left on.

Can I search comments inside one post?

Yes. Choose Post, paste the thread link and type the word. Up to 500 comments are read, replies included. Share links from the Reddit app are followed to the post first.

Does it find deleted or removed comments?

No. Once a comment is deleted by its author or removed by a moderator it is gone from Reddit's public pages and from here. Archive projects like Pushshift are the only place removed comments survive, and they are now restricted to moderators.

Is it free, and do I need an account?

It is free and needs no Reddit account. Each visitor gets five free searches a week, and a free Adlicio account gets 30 a day. The tool has a shared daily budget so nobody can run up our costs; on a very busy day it pauses until midnight UTC.

Does Reddit know I searched?

No. Our server reads the public page. Nothing touches a Reddit account and nothing is posted or sent.

Why did my search find nothing?

The words may not appear in the newest 500 comments, the subreddit may be private or adult, or the post may have its comments locked. Try fewer words, a different spelling, or a wider scope.

Can I search adult (NSFW) communities?

No. Adult communities and posts marked NSFW are left out on purpose.

Is this the Reddit API?

No. Reddit's API needs an app registration and, above the free tier, costs $0.24 per 1,000 calls. This tool reads the same public pages a logged-out browser sees. If you need thousands of comments in a spreadsheet, the Adlicio Reddit comment scraper exports full threads.
