02Field guide

What the app detector can see

Shopify apps leave code on a store's pages: app blocks and app embeds named after the app, and older script tags. The detector reads that code on the public home page and matches it to the app's Shopify App Store listing.

Apps that run only in the admin, at checkout or in the background leave no code on the storefront, so they cannot show here. An app the tool does not know yet shows with a name taken from its code and an App Store search link.

Headless stores load fewer apps through Shopify, so their list is shorter. When a store runs a review app, open a product page in the Shopify Review Analyzer, and use the Shopify Theme Detector for the theme in detail.

03FAQ

Shopify app detector FAQ

How do I see what apps a Shopify store uses?

Paste the store URL into the Shopify App Detector. It reads the app code on the store's public page and lists each app with its category and a link to its Shopify App Store listing.

Is the Shopify App Detector free?

Yes. You can run 10 lookups a week without an account, and a free account lets you run more.

Does it need a login or a browser extension?

No. It reads the same public page a shopper sees. There is nothing to install and no store access is needed.

Why are some apps missing?

Only apps that add code to the storefront can be seen. Apps that work only in the admin, at checkout or in the background, such as inventory, accounting or shipping label apps, leave nothing on the page.

Why do some apps link to a search?

The tool found the app's code but does not have its App Store page on file yet, so it shows a name built from the code and links to an App Store search for it.

Does it work on headless Shopify stores?

It tells you the store is headless and lists the apps it can still find in the page code. Headless storefronts load fewer Shopify apps, so expect a shorter list.
