TikTok Comments Not Showing? How to See Them, With or Without an Account

You open a video, tap the speech bubble, and the panel is empty. Sometimes it says "Comments are turned off". Sometimes it spins and shows nothing. Sometimes the count says 4,000 comments and you can see twelve.
Most of the time the comments are still there. TikTok is just not showing them to you, for one of a handful of reasons. This guide goes through the reasons in the order they are most likely, then shows a way to read the comments on any public video from a browser, with no TikTok account.
Why TikTok hides comments
The creator turned comments off. This is the most common case. The panel says "Comments are turned off" or "This creator has limited who can comment". Nobody can read or write comments on that video, logged in or not. Nothing on your side will change that.
Your account is under 16. TikTok sets accounts for ages 13 to 15 so that only friends can comment, and it hides most comment sections on the For You feed. Check the birthday on the account. If it is wrong, TikTok has a form to correct it, and it asks for ID.
Restricted Mode or Family Pairing is on. Both settings hide comment sections on videos TikTok marks as mature. Look under Settings, Content preferences. If a parent set up Family Pairing, the comment setting sits in their app, not yours.
The video is region locked. Some videos load in your feed but hide their comments in your country. This shows up mostly with music, news and political content. A VPN changes it, which tells you the comments exist.
TikTok filtered the comments. Creators can filter comments by keyword or hold every comment for review. Filtered comments are invisible to everyone except the creator and the person who wrote them. If your own comment vanished, this is usually why, not a ban.
You are logged out on the web. The TikTok website shows the comment section to logged-out visitors on most videos, but it sometimes shows a login prompt over the panel, and on some regions it hides the section completely. The video is still public. Only the site is being difficult.
The app is stale. A cached feed can show the comment count from an hour ago while the panel fails to load. Force quit the app, clear the cache under Settings, Free up space, and open the video again. On Android, an app update from the store fixes this more often than anything else.
What to try first, in order
- ✓Look for the "Comments are turned off" message. If it is there, stop. The creator disabled them.
- ✓Pull down on the comment panel to refresh it. Then close and reopen the video.
- ✓Open the video in a browser instead of the app. Copy the link from the Share sheet and paste it into Safari or Chrome. If the comments show there, the app is the problem.
- ✓Check Settings, Content preferences for Restricted Mode. Turn it off and open the video again.
- ✓Check the age on your account, and check whether Family Pairing is active.
- ✓Log out and open the same link. If the comments appear logged out and not logged in, a setting on your account is hiding them.
If the comments show in the browser but not in the app, you are done. Clear the cache or reinstall the app when you have time.
How to see TikTok comments without an account
Sometimes you do not want to log in at all. Maybe you are checking a video on a work computer, maybe you left TikTok, maybe you are researching what people say under a competitor's videos and want the comments in a spreadsheet.
The TikTok comment viewer reads the public comments on any video from its link. Paste the link, press the button, and the comments appear with the author, the text, the like count and the date. It works with the short vm.tiktok.com and tiktok.com/t/ links from the app's Share sheet. It follows them to the video first.
What it shows: up to 100 top level comments per pull, most liked first, plus the replies TikTok shows with them. There is a search box that filters by word or by username, so you can find one person's comments on a video or every comment that mentions a product. The CSV download is free and opens in Excel or Google Sheets.
What it cannot show: comments on private accounts, comments the creator turned off, and comments TikTok or the creator filtered or deleted. The viewer reads the same public video a logged-out browser sees. If the comments are hidden there, they are hidden here too.
It never asks for your TikTok login, it never posts, and the creator is not notified. Each visitor gets a few free pulls a week, and a free Adlicio account raises that to 30 a day. On a very busy day the tool can pause until midnight UTC while its daily budget resets.
When you need more than 100 comments
